Finished my 3rd hopper.I used evergreen styrene .060 angle #291 for the chord bracing and then painted them with Floquil eng. black.I used Floquil reefer orange and hand painted the orange panel. The car was weathered with pastels.
I included a picture of the prototype.I found the pic at a train show in the early 90's and I have no clue who the author of the photo is,the info on the back says it was taken at Baltimore on Aug. 14 1976.Would anyone know what other numbers in the class received the orange panel treatment?

Side one.

Side two.

Yes. That is unusual on an HTd isn't it? I know the HTz's had the panel, but this is the first I "recall" seeing on an HTd. Any more out there? Bill - being a Morgantown boy, I would think you would be aware of that and your request seems to have an air of surprise to it. (will be checking the Bos' book when I get home from work)

Since I am on an HTe kick right now, I am curious if there are any HTe's with the orange panel.

While on that topic. All 200 HTe's were pegged for Ore Service, if I am not mistaken. A mere 4-5 years later the HTg's showed up with most if not all of them also for Ore service,(The HTg 484 series cars are not listed in the Rdg Mod freight hopper roster??) yet the mine was down for the count shortly thereafter. (Some of) 400 HTz, (some of)400 HTd, 200 Hte's and then the HTg class in 75/76..... That is a lot of hoppers for ore service, yet it does not appear that the ore service restriction was removed on any hoppers I photographed into the 80 and 90's. What did they do with them? Even if there were two sets of cars shuttled back and forth, that is only 2 trains of about 100 cars. I don't think that was the case because the empties went down in the morning, were loaded by one crew and then taken to Bethlehem in the evening by another crew. Did they unload them or just drop them off to be unloaded and then bring a string of empties home? (Which would justify two train sets of cars.)
