Chris,

Those LV repaints look great! I have yet to see the factory painted models in person, but from photos I’ve seen online and the personal testimonies I’ve read from people who saw the real thing, Athearn’s color is off.

Also, this may be old news to some, but Athearn announced a phase 1 GP40-2 in NS paint as road number 3000 (an ex Reading unit) last December. The artwork includes the rain gutter too. I would expect them to eventually release this model in Reading colors since they did the RTR version several years ago. Yet another hit to the wallet!

Thanks, Mark

Finished FMj 9300.The unit started as a decorated proto kit in Rock Island paint.I brushed over the RI markings with black paint and then painted the unit using Polyscale RDG green. The decals are from the RDG modeler,HK and MS.The trucks and wheels were painted a weathered black. The weathering was done with powders and sealed with dull coat.

Side 1.

Side 2.

I crossed the proto line and dressed it up a bit with the yellow grabs and stirrups.

Today I also finish work on converting my Walthers 5504 to 3605.I'll most likely add a little more weathering.I wasn't in the mood to do the masking so I decided to try hand painting the side sill,I'll go back to the air brush when I convert my 5517.I brush painted Polyscale RDG green as the primer coat,it covered the yellow much better then the SCII RDG green. When that dried I applied the SCII RDG green with a brush.I used SCII engine black to paint over the number boards.I highlighted the grabs and railings with Floquil railbox yellow. The trucks were painted a weathered black.I didn't like the painted on wipers so I added detail assoc.wipers.Other added details include the airline connection, arm rests, wind screens, aci plates, decals and drip strips. The weathering was done with paints, pencil and powders.

Caught a light GP30 move this morning.

Added a little more weathering to the upper rear and trucks of 3605.
I was a little disappointed with the yellow choice of the Walthers 30's,seemed too lemon like to me.I know, color like beauty is in the eye of the beholder.Anyway, after coupling all three of my recently completed units I really like the faded look of the 3605 compared to the others.
