When Scalecoat stopped making RDG yellow I turned to Polyscale and when it was announced that the PS line was going to be discontinued I bought all the RDG yellow I could find. This resulted in getting red labeled and white labeled RDG yellow...the white labeled batch seems to have more of an orange tint to it.With that said I thought I'd show some comparison pictures with custom painted models and factory painted models.I know everyone interprets color differently...for me I always felt that SCII RDG green and yellow were correct and also PS RDG yellow.
First up...these three were painted with SCII RDG green and rad labeled PS RDG yellow.

Second pic shows units painted with SCII green and PS white labeled RDG yellow.

Here's a line up of custom and factory painted models to show some shade differences and description of what was applied.

On the left

5212 Bowser...factory paint...like the yellow but think green is not quite right.
3656 Kato 1c... custom...SCII RDG green and yellow...painted years ago
3610 Walthers...custom...SCII RDG green and white labeled PS RDG yellow
5202 Atlas...factory
On the other side of the aisle

619 Athearn...factory...seems identical to the Bowser unit.
5207 Atlas...custom...SCII RDG green I mixed the yellow to my liking using Floquil refer yellow and white.
3615 Walthers...factory...
3618 Walthers...custom...SCII RDG green and red labeled PS RDG yellow.

My point with this post is to show that the color shades don't have to be perfect. With the addition of some RDG details and weathering the models represent different fading affects.Place these models at a well detailed engine facility on a layout and they surely would attracted a viewers attention. These differences in the models is what attracted me to do my recent 3615.

After finishing 3615 I moved on to another factory painted unit...the Atlas stand in for LV's low nose RS11's number 402.
I added the extra details and weathered the unit.

Shots of all four units together...400&402 are factory painted the 401&403 started as undecorated units I completed quite awhile ago.

Picked up two RDG LOl centerflows offered by Intermountain...I ordered these back in 2014 and I guess the boat finally arrived.
Two brand new units waiting to be pressed into service at Annville.
The RDG's LOl's were numbered 79923-79999 and its been reported that fourteen of the class were lined with plastic for sugar service...not sure which numbered cars fall into this category.
The models track well while in a long consist and come with KD's.They also have etched metal roofwalks and crossovers. The biggest discrepancy is the low mounted brake wheel placement...the RDG's were mounted high and I don't believe this configuration has ever been offered in plastic.
In all,not a bad looking addition to anyone's RDG fleet. Both will have some light weathering work in their futures.
Closer views of both cars.

The IM model comes offered in six different road numbers
79927 79935 79943
79951 79977 79989
Maybe someone knows if any of these numbered cars were used in sugar service...let us know.I see that cars 79901 and 79902 from class LOj were dedicated to sugar sevice.

I also picked up two Accurail offset hoppers that were decorated for the P&WV and converted them to RDG HTc's.I had problems removing the factory printing on these units using my sol-v-set method so I just airbrushed over the printing using SCII engine black.I added the extra bracing to the top chords,KD 58's,Athearn metal wheels. The decals used were from HK,RDG modeler and MS.Weathered with pastels.
First up 63489.I used a picture of the prototype found on page 45 of Bossler's book as a reference.

For the second unit 63281 I referenced a picture of the prototype found on page 16 of Flags Diamonds and Statues Vol 10 numbers 1&2 from the ARHS.

After receiving their loading at the Ryan breaker in Mar-Lin Pa.

The loads are also a Accurail product sprayed down with semi-gloss.

Chris, # 79901,79902,79925,79926 were lined for sugar, assigned to national sugar, using a blue stripe above the reporting marks, the yellow stripes were for cars assigned to amstar sugar.there were a total of 14 LOl cars assigned to sugar service.i do not know the other 12 car numbers.
